I recently visited Darcy Williamson’s From The Forest enterprise over in McCall Idaho during her weekly apprentice program (Every Wednesday). See also her Facebook page here.
Darcy is considered one of the top herbalists in the US and has been working her craft for 45 years. In her apprentice program, she teaches how to harvest herbs in a sustainable way – a way that leaves the herbs for harvest again later. She also has the apprentices participate in all steps of the production process for her many bulk herb, tincture, syrup and informational products.
I collected Horsetail, Oregon Grape, Huckleberry Leaves, Cleavers and some Pipsissewa with a wonderful collection of young and friendly budding herbalists. I can’t quantify how much I learned in the field with these people. Learning identification by harvesting is probably one of the most efficient ways to learn and retain useful herbal knowledge.
I later got to grind down some Lomatiom root for Darcy – I just love machines!
I introduced Darcy and many of her associates to Lifewater Ranch. It is my hope that in the future our two endeavors will have a mutually beneficial association with each other.
I am hoping that Darcy will find some time in her busy schedule to visit Lifewater Ranch and assess the herb quality of my place.
Who knows, maybe someday we will have an event with Darcy teaching her craft at Lifewater Ranch or perhaps we will sell her products here for her.
